Alpine
Altitude Fitness Camps
|
|
|

|
|
 |
Welcome to our
mountain health and
fitness retreats. This
is no boot camp, but it's
not a pampering session
either. We go back to basics.
You eat well and healthily, train
hard, and recover with massages. |
|
|
|
|
|
 |
People join our Alpine altitude fitness camps for
a variety of reasons. For some it is gaining some
basic fitness, while others are aiming to lose weight,
or gain better muscle and body toning. We also see
a lot of people who have made a major lifestyle
decision, be it an objective to climb a mountain
or to prioritise their health over their work, and
they are using the training camp to kickstart their
new life to work towards their goals. |
 |
The
key unifying reason that everyone is on the altitude
training camp is that they wish to improve their
fitness in a friendly small group environment, and
to escape the 'normal' world that gave them the
body or fitness level they want to move away from.
Everyone
benefits from using the group synergies to motivate
them to train hard, and the week will push you hard
whatever level of fitness you arrive in. |
 |
Altitude training has great health benefits, and
the clean Alpine air and good diet will detoxify
you over the week. We encourage you to reduce (ideally
so stop) caffiene and alcohol intake for the week,
and as well as a healthy body we also work on a
healthy mind. Leave the laptops and phones behind.
There is nothing that cannot wait a week. Your mental
wellbeing needs nourishing too, and we never neglect
this. |
 |
Dates: these
courses are run every week of summer from the start
of June to the end of September, and during the
winter from the start of December until the end
of April.
For current availability on any dates, please get
in touch to speak with one of our team who can advise
you which dates have people of a similar level on
them. We deliberately keep group numbers low, with
a maximum of 6 people and a minimum of 2 on any
week. |

| ITINERARY
NOTES: Where possible we follow itineraries. Mountain
adventures are weather and conditions dependant, so occasionaly
we are forced to alter the plans. If this is the case,
suitable alternatives are offered. Please use this outline
itinerary as a guide to the types of route / activity
that you will attempt. |

Your
luxury course accommodation

Below are some photos of one of the hotels we commonly
use in Chamonix. As you can see the accommodation is of
a high standard, and of a modern style. We guarantee that
your hotel will be at least 3***, and have a pool and
spa facilities. Your relaxation and recovery after each
training session are of paramount importance. The
course prices are based on two people sharing a twin room
(or a double for couples) on a bed and breakfast basis,
but we are happy to quote for single occupancy if you
would prefer.

Why
choose Icicle for this training course?

 |
|
|
Icicle
has built up a great reputation as a guiding company
in the Alps, for people looking for guided trekking,
skiing and climbing. A majority of our clients are
in regular contact before their course to discuss
their fitness and training requirements, and so
these courses were developed for those who wanted
the structure and detail of a scheduled training
course. Our heritage is in the high mountains, and
we have a vast experience in looking after clients
in the Alps, and meeting their requirements. Here
at Icicle we offer these altitude training camps
as one of our entry level courses, not from the
perspective of fitness instructors offering a fitness
camp as the pinnacle of their courses. Our wide
ranging experience, professionalism, and attention
to detail, safety and individual requirements are
second to none. |

What types of training will I be likely to do?

 |
| The
majority of our mountain fitness altitude training
hikes are exactly that. You are walking at altitude
to develop your aerobic fitness and toning. We walk
on a variety of terrain to work different muscle
groups. On easier ground you can often power walk,
and some may wish to run. We put a key focus on
warm up and warm down exercises, as well as stretching.
Your instructor will also help you work out your
ideal training level in relation to your aerobic-anareobic
threshold, so you are exercising effectively, for
the maximum benefit to you. |

Who leads me & what experience do they have?

 |
| You
are led throughout the week by a qualified Personal
Trainer who is also a UIMLA International Mountain
Leader, which is the highest qualification and a
legal requirement for leading trekking groups in
the French Alps. Our instructors are all fully qualified,
and all are British. They have all had specific
training in mountain physiology and training. We
do not believe that a qualification is everything,
and so have selected our training team carefully
for those who are passionate about sport and fitness.
Most are ultra-marathon trail runners, so you can
rest assured that they lead not only by qualification,
but by example. We are very proud of our instructor
athlete team. |

What kit do I need, and what should I wear?

 |
| The
photos on this page have been carefully selected
to give an accurate idea of what you can wear. Essentially
it is lightweight sportswear that has been designed
for high intensity aerobic activities. Wear whatever
you are comfy in, from shorts and a t-shirt to technical
gym gear, or a baggy tracksuit. Your comfort is
paramount, and comfort is the key. A good pair of
trainers and lightweight hiking boots are essential,
as is a small day pack. A pair of walking poles
are highly advised, especially those concerned about
their knees and leg strength. You will be instructed
about the correct use of poles, and you will give
your upper body a good workout and take some of
the work off your leg muscles on the uphill sections.
On these courses we provide a complimentary technical
training top to all participants, that is yours
to keep after the course has finished. |
