Mount
Elbrus 5642m, Caucasus
Elbrus
is the highest peak in Europe. It is technically
similar to Mont Blanc, though the importance of
acclimatisation is far greater. The mountain is
an extinct volcano, conical in shape, with a crater
rim on which the twin summits are perched.

Everest
Base Camp Trek, Nepal
If
it is your first time visting the Himalayas, this

The trek includes the famous viewpoint of Kala Patar
at 5545m, from where you see the famous Khumbu Glacier,

Mera
Peak 6476m, Nepal Himalayas
Mera
Peak is famous in the region as a trekking non technical
ascent, yet because of its altitude and expedition
ascent style, it will provide a challenge for experienced
Alpine climbers. The length of the expedition ensures
that your acclimatisation is good.

Ama
Dablam 6856m, Nepal Himalayas
Ama
Dablam is one of the worlds most stunning mountains,
and is located in the Himalayas to the south of
Everest and Lhotse in the Khumbu region. Ama Dablam

Icicle
Specialist Expeditions
We
do not regard ourselves as an 'expeditions company',
who operate here and there and are master of none. We
are an Alpine guiding company who offers highly specialist
expeditions to a very few destinations, that we know
intimately and have a great local knowledge of. We aim
to transfer what makes us so highly regarded in the
Alps, to our specialist expeditions around the world;
great guides, good equipment, and excellent local knowledge.
|
 |
|
As
you may have guessed, our expeditions are not
run along the same
formula as the numbers games of the big expeditions
companies. Our expeditions are intimate and have
low maximum numbers, often of only six or eight.
We believe this is essential for the quality of
the experience that you have, rather than being
treated as a number. Of course we are highly motivated
by reaching the summits, but also about the experience
you have on the way.
|
|
|
|
|
|
All
of our expeditions have been carefully planned and researched,
and we work with the best local agents that there are,
to ensure that each trip runs as smoothly as possible.
These agents are an essential element of the success
of our trips, as they source the best mules, tents,
food etc, that is key to the expeditions. We want you
to have total peace of mind that you are in the best
hands before, during and after the trip.

Acclimatisation,
Altitude & Experience
A
well planned acclimatisation program is central to your
chances of summiting on any expedition, and our itineraries
have been carefully planned with this in mind. We try
to allow extra days on the mountain for summit bid windows.
It is of paramount importance to us that every single
person on an expedition has a suitable level of previous
experience. In this way maximise everyones chances of
success, as well as their safety on the expedition.

Icicle
follows and supports the UIAA Environmental Objectives
& Guidelines. For full details on our label, read
the
section below. Icicle
is the proud holder of the UIAA Environment Label, which
promotes high standards of conduct and access for expeditions.
The UIAA is a partner in the United Nations International
Partnership for Sustainable Development in Mountain
Regions which promotes protected areas, access and conservation.
|
 |
|
We
provide all our clients with a pre-expedition
briefing on access issues and procedures that
minimise the impact on the environment. Our
expeditions also follow strict environmental guidelines,
in terms of litter disposal, sanitation, local
economy sensitivity & porter care.
All
expedition bookings receive a FREE Icicle expedition
kit bag (100 litres) worth £50, to a UK
address. The kit bags are built out of tough waterproof
fabric, and are designed to endure the rigors
of all that an expedition entails; air freight,
mules / yaks, porters and base camp use. On expeditions
such as Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua the porters
and mules have strict weight allowances to adhere
to, and the bags have been designed with this
in mind.

|
| On
each
of the
expedition itineraries, we clearly outline the required
level of fitness. Upon
booking you will be sent an expedition dossier &
expedition specific training training schedules.
To get an idea of the types of training advised,
you can viewed (or print) a generic expedition training
planner by clicking on the link to the right.
