Extending your stay in Chamonix - accommodation & activities
Many of our customers choose to extend their stay in Chamonix, either before or after their course, in order to climb, ski or trek on their own. Even though your course may have finished, your stay has not, and the Icicle staff are there to help you. Also consult your Local Area Information Pack in your accommodation for other ideas.
Arriving 1 night early, or staying 1 night?
Most week long courses run from Sunday to Saturday. Our accommodation is only available from Sunday to Saturday, so if you arrive a day early or stay on a day later, you need to book into alternative accommodation. Please look at the list below for options to suit all budgets. If arriving for night(s) early before your course, please leave your baggage in the hotel luggage room until the Icicle check in from 16:00, as we are not open and do not have space for luggage storage.

What is the accommodation check in proceedure?

The week long course check in is from 16:00 on the Sunday. At 17:00 there is the course briefing, which usually takes an hour, so please note that if you are arriving after 18:00 on the Sunday you will miss the briefing, and your accommodation keys and directions to the flat will be left in a local bar for you to collect. The check out it at 10:00 on the Saturday. Please note that the Icicle office is closed between 12:00 on Saturday and 16:00 on Sunday, so if your return airport transfer leaves later or incoming airport transfer arrives early, you need to be aware that there is nowhere in Chamonix with baggage storage facilities, and we do not offer this service either.

Staying for an extra week in Chamonix?

On quiet weeks you can often rent one of the course flats. Please click on the link below for full details.

Accommodation Extensions for less than a week
If you are planning on staying for between one night and a week before or after your course, then you must book this directly yourself. If you are looking to extend your stay, here are some recommendations of accommodation in different categories. We cannot make any reservations on your behalf, as all these accommodation options require your personal credit card details (in cases where a reservation deposit is required). If you would like any further options, look on the Chamonix Tourist Website (www.chamonix.com). The walking distance with baggage in minutes from the Icicle office is also detailed - we have timed them! Approximate rates are also provided for single rooms (where available) and twin / shared rooms. These rates are 'from' tariffs taken from the hotel websites, and so are not fixed rates. They are indicative for the purposes of price comparison only.

Transport links and activities in Chamonix
Trains
The trains are also good and quite cheap. There is a station in the middle of Chamonix (five minutes from the apartments). Schedules are readily available both at the station and the tourist information office which is in the centre of Chamonix. If you wish to travel to Geneva this takes about three hours and three changes!
Taxis & Buses
Taxis are very expensive to use in the valley, even on short journeys. On longer trips such as to Geneva airport prices in excess of £120 have been charged! Buses within the valley are regular (with a good service) and cheap with well advertised schedules. Make sure that you take small Euro change or a Carte d'Hote.
