Our guiding team and their qualifications
In the Alps the laws governing what levels of leader are qualified to take groups are very strict. All climbing, glacier travel, and off piste skiing must be led by an IFMGA / UIAGM International Mountain Guide. The UK qualifications of MIC, MIA, ML(W), ML(S) & SPA have zero standing in the Alps. For groups involved in snowshoeing, trekking, and avalanche awareness a UIMLA International Mountain Leader is the qualification required. Whatever course you are on, we ALWAYS adhere strictly to these qualifications standards. Our leaders are our most important asset as far as both the clients and we are concerned, and we take great care in recruiting suitable leaders.

To meet our team of IFMGA Guides and IML leaders, click here (use if the IFMGA and UIMLA logos below are authorised by the named course directors on this linked page). Anyone who applies for a leader position will be required to provide copies of their qualification(s) certificates, their professional carnet, and insurance details.

If you hold either the IFMGA or UIMLA carnet, or your MIC or MIA for UK work, and wish to work with us, please e-mail us to arrange a meeting at either our Windermere office. We do not hire anyone without meeting them first, as we need to be completely satisfied that you would fit with our work ethic and standards. Most guides come recommended by others in our team.
International Mountain Guides
We always welcome extra applicants to join our team of over 30 mountain guides. There is a variety of positions from full time to freelance that are available. Applicants must speak fluent English and French.
International Mountain Leaders
Any vacancies for IML's will be advertised through the British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML), and will be posted on their website forum. We would then welcome applications from full IML's.
Each year we get several e-mails from people saying they want to work for free or a low wage, to work alongside our guiding team to get enough experience to become qualified. We do not cater for this for three key reasons; 1) it is illegal for anyone to work in the Alps assisting leading a group who is not qualified already, 2) an extra person joining a guided group comes under the duty of care of the qualified guide leading that group, and so reduces the number of spaces for paying clients which makes this completely financially unviable, or 3) the amount of previous experience required before even starting to train on one of the guiding schemes is so great that there is no possible way to get the experience over any less than circa ten seasons, let alone one season. For details about the training schemes, click on one of these links; IFMGA Guides or UIMLA Leaders.

Adventure Travel company administration in Windermere

Our office and small shop in Windermere requires an administrator. We are seeking a well organised and motivated person, to manage the administration of course bookings, payments and orders.

Hours and days of work can be negotiable, but this job would ideally suit someone looking for between 2 and 4 days per week. It's more important to us, to get the right person for the role, working their ideal hours, than moulding someone to a role that doesn't suit perfectly.

This is a small award-winning business, which has been trading for nearly 20 years, where your input and ideas can make a real difference! While the majority of the work is unaccompanied, especially during the peak summer season, there is always constant support and assistance. Full training is provided to the successful applicant.

The office has a small shop sales area and internet retail too, so some previous retail experience would be advantageous, though non essential. You should be computer literate (e.g. Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer), and various social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).

A good attitude, an ability to adapt to any task, and a friendly and approachable personality is required. Please note that we value real life experience as much as any academic qualifications and certificates!

We are a small family run company, and assure you that we are fair, hard working and honest. We expect high integrity and total discretion. You would liase daily direct with the owners, so have genuine input to the company.

The salary and exact role is negotiable depending on your experience. The basic salary would be between 16 - 20k pro rata, based on a 35 hour working week (f/t). For the right candidate, we can consider fitting hours to other commitments e.g. school hours for childcare, or ongoing studies.

If you are keen to join our close team, and to work for a company that is really going somewhere, in a beautiful part of the world, then we really want to hear from you. The closing date for applications is midday on Friday 20th January 2017.

To apply, please either send a current CV and covering letter, accompanied by a recent photo of yourself (preferably doing something outdoorsy!), or complete an application form (see below).

Any further questions?
A key part of choosing a company is being able to come and talk about your plans with an experienced course advisor face to face. In an increasingly virtual world, we know our clients value speaking to real people, getting open and honest advice. The vast majority of our clients are British, and our office and outdoor store is based in Windermere in the English Lake District.

Get in contact to arrange a meeting, and come in for a coffee to discuss your course in person with a trip advisor.
