What
previous experience is required for a novice?
None! You do not need any
previous experience to have a great day out on
snowshoes. For a first day on snowshoes the terrain
would be fairly easy, so you build up confidence,
but for those with a few days experience, challenging
routes can be taken. If
you want to visit some of the most remote regions
of the Alps, then snowshoes are the best method
of accessing them. You can pick up the basic skills
in a few minutes, and then you are off and away.
Maybe this explains why snowshoeing is the fastest
growing sport in the Alps! You can undertake all
types of snowshoe trek, from rolling mountain
slopes to Alpine forests and Alpages, so there
is something for everyone to choose from. One
of the delights of snowshoeing is that it can
be done in all weathers, even if it is too bad
to ski.
