 | Welcome
to 'Ice Angels' |
You
wont find a trace of pink and lilac on this page. All
we offer are climbing courses for women, as recently there has
been a massive increase in demand for this style of course. Equally
this page does not explore the reasons why women want to climb together, its simply
designed to make it happen. | | |
1st
to offer womens courses | Icicle
ran its first 'women only' course in 2000, and launched the brand of Ice Angels
in 2005, which caused an explosion of interest (and bookings!). The first ever
Ice Angels branded course was an ice climbing week in the Val de Cogne in December
2005. Since then we have expanded the range of Ice Angels courses available. We
are proud to be the first UK company to offer womens courses in the Alps.
Others may have tried to follow, but we are six years in the lead, and the 1st
place crown will never be taken from us.

About
Ice Angels Ice
Angels is the
little sister of
Icicle Mountaineering (established in 2000), where I also work running the Chamonix
office. As with all good ideas this was born on the
hill,
in the
Leschaux hut beneath the
mighty
north face of the Grandes Jorasses, to be precise! It was eary winter, and there
was lots of snow. I had just returned from a route on the Petite Jorasses,
with a friend, and upon reaching the remote hut we found a couple of French
teams. Over dinner we all chatted, and one of the French
climbers remarked that he had never seen a woman at the hut
in winter. Whilst watching the stars and the belt of Orion come out over the Jorasses,
I thought about what he had said, and realised how much women are losing out,
by not feeling comfortable accessing the mountains. And
so Ice Angels was born, not for any anti-male or pro feminist reasons, but simply
to enable more women to enjoy the mountains, who would prefer to be in the company
of other women climbing partners.

| Postscript:
Why
Ice Angels? Well, I admit I have done my fair share of snow angels (usually after
a couple of drinks), and I like ice climbing, so there you go! Read the section
below for how we operate Ice Angels courses.

Range
of courses | | We
can run every single Icicle course with a female Mountain Guide, and women only
clients, at exactly the same price (as long as the ratios remain the same). Have
a look at the main Icicle website by clicking on the drop down menu at the top
of this page, and let us know which courses appeal, or if you would like further
information.

Leaders |
| All
our Guides hold the IFMGA International Mountain Guide carnet (a legal requirement
to work in the high mountains of the Alps), and have been selected for their leadership
style, personality, and sense of humour, not to mention the fact that they arent
too bad at climbing and skiing either! For more details on the Guide qualification,
click
here. Needless to say, all Ice Angels guides are women.
