Chamonix trail running camps and courses...
Below is our range of summer trail running courses, and winter snowshoe trail running too. Our longest trail running course is a week long with five days of running and guiding, but for those with less time off available to you, we also offer two weekend courses to choose from. One is following part of the North Face Ultra Trail route around Mont Blanc from Les Contamines to Courmayeur, where you run approximately a half marathon each day. The second weekend course is a winter snowshoe trail running trip, with a night spent in a mountain hut.
Chamonix Trail Running Week - course itinerary
Price £599. 7 day course, 5 days UIMLA guiding, dates on demand for 4 or more
Includes: 6 nights B&B accommodation in Chamonix (upgrades available), road / rail transport in the Chamonix valley, pre-course information booklet. Excludes: travel to Chamonix and outside the valley, cable cars (if used), lunches & evening meals, activities insurance.

Sun Travel to Chamonix to arrive for the 18:00 check-in followed by and course safety and itinerary briefings. Briefings are over by 20:00, then out for pre-dinner drinks and food. Night in Chamonix.
Mon A classic trail run in Chamonix, such as that from Montenvers to the Plan d'Aiguille, then the option of running down to Chamonix, or being a bit more civilised, and taking the cable car. Night in Chamonix.
Different running techniques for varied terrain types.
Equipment and clothing choice and its selection.
Nutritional and hydration advice, whilst in the mountains.
Tue Today the focus is on key mountain skills for trail running, and so the day is spent mountain walking, with a focus on navigation techniques and acclimatisation issues. Night in Chamonix.
Techniques for the use of poles for walking and running.
Mountain navigation for running routes, using GPS, maps & compass.
Wed Another classic trail run above Chamonix, such as that from the Nid d'Aigle to Les Houches, via Mont Lachat. At Bellvue there is the option of taking the cable car down to the valley. Night in Chamonix.
Decent techniques for different trail types and conditions.
Focus on injury avoidance, and common first aid scenarios.
Thu Easier day, with a shorter run. This is really a warm up day in preparation for a long run the following day, to make final preparations, and to keep your muscles stretched. Night in Chamonix.
Session on how to plan mountain trail running routes.
Focus on pacing, timings, effects of gradient, and terrain factors.
Fri A longer trail run, up to a half marathon in length, to really put all the elements together that you have learnt over the week. Typically the route taken would follow that of the Cross du Mont Blanc, the annual half marathon event. After the exertions of the day, you desced by cable car. Night in Chamonix.
The icicing on the cake after all the efforts for the week.
Put into practice all the skills that you have learnt.
Rely on your increased mountain fitness and acclimatisation.
Sat Breakfast, then course debrief, with feedback and questions and answers session. Depart for home.

Sat Meet in Chamonix at 08:00 for course safety and itinerary briefings. Travel to Les Contamines, and start trail running past Notre Dame de la Gorge, and up to the Col de Bonhomme then the Col de Croix de Bonhomme. Have a quick break in the mountain hut, then run down to Les Chapieux and up past Ville de Glaciers to the Refuge des Mottets. Night in mountain hut on half board basis.
Sun A long ascent the next day towards the Col de la Seigne, and run into Italy. Descend to the Elizabetta Soldini refuge, and past Lac Combal. Choice of routes from there back towards Courmayeur, either by the higher track and Col Checroui, or via the lower trail past the Refugio Monte Bianco. Once in Courmayeur, travel back to Chamonix for a post run debrief. Depart for home.

Sat Meet in Chamonix at 08:00 for course safety and itinerary briefings. Travel to Planpincieux, and start trail running on snowshoes, up the Italian Val Ferret to Lavachey. Have a quick break in the café there, then run up towards the Refugio Bonatti in the Malatra valley. Night in mountain hut on half board basis, though this is a luxury hut with great food, hot showers, duvets on the beds...
Sun A long ascent the next day towards the Col Entre Deux Sauts, which provides spectacular views across onto the south face of Mont Blanc, then run back down to the Refugio Bonatti in time for a quick stop for lunch. Descend to the Val Ferret, and then follow the snowshoe trails back to Planpincieux. Once there you travel back to Chamonix for a post snowshoe run debrief. Depart for home.
